      Executive Assistant Interview

      Aug 20, 2019
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New York, NY
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub (New York, NY)

      Interview

30 min chat with recruiter and if you pass that, recruiting will email you a take home assessment that you must complete within 24 hours of receiving it. The ask was to schedule a hypothetical week long overseas business trip which also included a personal trip after with the Exec's family. You have to schedule everything from A-Z. I basically made a real trip with an hourly itinerary & even links to hotels, restaurants and activities except I didn't worry about $. That took me about 9 hours to do. I emailed that in & in the morning, I got an email that I could move forward in the interview process - to an in person to meet w/ 3 other EA's & someone from HR, 30 min each AND another 45 min written assessment. I met with 3 EA's & got to hear their prospective of how life is working there & they also interviewed me and asked traditional interview questions. Then I met with someone from HR and she had more insight on the position and what the Exec was looking for. After that, they gave me a laptop with a word doc that had a bunch of scenarios and you have to write down what you would do. I walked away feeling ok about the interviews and felt really good about the written assessment. I was still trying to figure out if I wanted to work there and thinking of things I would ask the Exec if I made it to that round. The following week the recruiter emails me and schedules a time to chat. She called to thank me for interviewing & meeting w the team BUT the team wanted to move forward w other candidates. I said ok and thanked her. Overall, the assessments were the most difficult part of the interview process.

      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub in Sep 2024

      Interview

The interview process was fairly quick. I met with the recruiter, who ran through my resume, and then two weeks later, I met with two different executive assistants. I was told on Thursday they would be holding the last round of interviews on Monday/Tuesday with an offer on Wednesday. I followed up with the recruiter on Monday who emailed later in the day to let me know they wouldn't be moving forward. I thought the interviews went really well, but there was no feedback on why they weren't moving forward.

      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 7 weeks. I interviewed at GitHub in Jun 2021

      Interview

I went through 5 interviews and an overly long writing sample / quiz. The first interviews with an EA and a chief of staff were good and they seemed interested in my background and asked good questions and shared info. The interviews with the 2 people I would support were not so good. They really didn't ask me anything. I had to figure out how to interject my experience into the conversation as they talked about their org and things they hoped the EA could help with. Neither had much experience having an EA before so that is probably why. Everyone was nice and the process was communicated well but I didn't feel like I really had a chance to show what I could do. I still have a positive feeling about the company as everyone I met had been there many years and seemed passionate about the work and the company culture.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

What attracts you to GitHub? Why are you looking to leave your current job? How do you stay organized? How do you prioritize? There were no situational questions.

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at GitHub (New York, NY) in May 2022

      Interview

A very nice experience. I didn’t get the job but the interviewer was very kind and gave me a lot of details about company benefits. She listened and was attentive.
