GiveDirectly Communications Director interview questions

Applied online. Contacted by email to schedule a brief tel chat (20 mins) with executive while in their car. Asked for writing samples. Then asked to complete a writing exercise. All this before even discussing salary range, the job itself and any in-person contact. I get the impression they don't have an HR person and don't know what they are doing. Impressed with my background and education but really don't know how to hire someone for the role, or for what they are looking. The writing samples and exercises were silly.
