      Content Specialist Interview

      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at GoDaddy (Austin, TX) in May 2019

      Interview

Within a day of applying I was contacted by a recruiter. We talked a bit, going over basic expectations for the role. They also asked me some simple interview questions. It was very apparent that they were trying to sell me on the position, rather than the other way around. Afterwards I was scheduled for an in-person interview that would take place a few days later. I met with two team managers, one at a time, for 30 minutes each. They both asked similar questions from a sheet of paper and the atmosphere was extremely casual. I was told business casual but my interviewers were in graphic tees and shorts. The managers seemed nice enough. However I overheard my first interviewer talking outside of the room before the second interview, saying some rather unpleasant things about my candidacy. I realize the entire point is that I'm being judged during these interviews, but it was extremely unprofessional to overhear gossip while I'm actively interviewing. After the interviews I was scheduled to do a work project at one of the company's computers. I had an hour for what was essentially a practice run of what I'd be doing for the position, such as responding to business reviews and creating social media posts. I felt that I did a satisfactory job, though admittedly I don't feel as though I did enough to really stand out. However, part of the reason for that is because I was actually only given ~40 minutes to do the assignment. I had barely completed my work and was in the process of reviewing everything when the person managing the station I was working at came over and kicked me off. They were clearly flustered from working with a lot of applicants so I don't blame them, but it would've been nice to have been given the time I was told at the start. It's honestly a miracle I managed to submit a completed project, as you have to work at a decent pace just to complete everything in an hour. A week later I received an automated email saying that they were moving forward with other candidates. Overall the experience left a bad taste in my mouth. I can certainly see why there are a fair number of negative reviews here. Many of my interactions were pleasant and I believe many good people work here, but the process as a whole was very unprofessional.

      Interview

First round was a phone call that was around 15 minutes, pretty standard interview questions (what do you know about the role/company, why are you interested, etc) with a recruiter. Second round was ~an hour with the manager more in depth about content creation and community management experience. After that, I was given a project with various tasks to complete within 2 hours of the interview. 3 weeks later they called and said they chose someone else
