Interview
Two 45min interviews. First one went well and was the same as others described. Interviewer was very friendly.
Second interview threw me for a loop. I was told to select a specialization from 20+ categories, of which ML and DL were considered distinct categories. I chose ML, but was instead asked DL: encoder, open ended sequence modeling, Attention, even nonlinear dimensional reduction (!?). Also asked about work I'd read from Google Research and what I intend to do there, as if matching had already begun. Felt more like interviewing for a post-doc, the interviewer was cold and made rude comments
I submitted my resume for a researcher position. I had an interview with a human HR representative, which made the process feel more personalized and engaging. I didn't meet the requirements, but it gives me the belief that I could do it and be accepted by whom.
The Google interview process involves multiple rounds, starting with a phone screening, followed by technical interviews assessing problem-solving, coding, and system design, and concluding with behavioral interviews evaluating cultural fit.
I had the initial interview. I believe it went well in general. But, I needed to be better prepared for coding questions and I could not pass the first interview. I figured out that I needed to practice speaking out loud and clear when I was solving problems. The more I would get used to the interview format, the better I could.
