I had an hour-long phone screener, a formal phone interview that lasted two hours, a meet-and-greet with a local owner of a different location that was about a two-hour ordeal, a 3-hour in-person interview with the owner, interviews with four different references, and a two-hour personality test. I was basically assured that I had the job after jumping through so many hoops, then told two days later that I lost to a less qualified but more connected candidate after wasting a ton of time and money on the process. If that wasn't enough, the owner wanted to contact my current boss for a reference. I mentioned that I wasn't comfortable with that without an offer, but had I not said something, would have gladly put my current employment in jeopardy with no intention of offering me a job.
