      Senior Systems Engineer Interview

      Sep 27, 2022
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Chicago, IL
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Grainger (Chicago, IL) in Aug 2022

      Interview

I filled out the application on Grainger's website. I created a very detailed cover letter and detailed application. They didn't get back to me until 28 days later(yes, four weeks, almost a month). They had me schedule two interviews on one day, and they were at 10:00 AM and then 1:00 PM, which meant that the second interview went until about 2:30-3:00 PM, so these two interviews took up almost all of a whole work day. Then they had me do two more interviews a week later at the same times, so at this point I'd gone through four one-on-one interviews and had invested two whole work days interviewing with them. The interviews were divided up to have one focused on a teammate on the team, ones with supervisors, and with security. After I spent the better part of two whole work days interviewing with them, they didn't even send a "Thanks but no thanks." My time wasn't treated as valuable during the interview process. Applicants do have to take time out of our lives to attend interviews. This can mean taking time off of work and using up PTO, or it can mean missing out on other things we could be doing. It's one thing if a candidate had just gone through a half-hour interview, but I spent many hours talking to them and used up two work days. I felt that after being made to use up two whole days of my time(which is a major investment of my time), the fact that I didn't get a "Thanks but no thanks," was really inappropriate.
