This was a very disappointing experience that objectified candidates.
1) Phone screen with HR: very nice conversation with an external HR team member
2) Technical/Aptitude assessment: this was where it started getting strange. It was a logic test (similar to IQ/GMAT questions), which proved to me that the hiring team would only speak with candidates at a certain IQ level. In any case, I received a high enough score to move forward.
3) Interview with hiring manager: this was a straightforward conversation about expectations for the role and upcoming projects. Behavioral questions. In this interview, it seemed that a technical background was not going to be necessary, but the team needed someone well-versed with technical conversations and stakeholder management.
4) Final interview with hiring manager and skip: this took another bizarre turn, as I was grilled about each one of my technical skills. At one point, I was even asked a question about how I would handle a SQL query. I was not asked about any of my experiences with stakeholder management, leadership, vendor management, etc.
I followed up every few days, but there was no word for 3 weeks after all interviews were completed, which shows a complete lack of professionalism from the team (and hints at the horrifying culture referenced on GD).
This was a bizarre interview process, in that the candidate's IQ was evaluated before any interviews took place, and the expectations of the team did not align with the job description. They are looking for a technical lead, not a "Manager, Product Development".
