Interview
The interview process began with a phone call to the hiring manager to discuss my background, skills, and experience as well as the position available within the company. It sounded promising so I moved along to a one hour technical phone screen where I was given two problems to solve by writing code in a language of my choosing. I was able to talk through the questions with the interviewer to clarify the question and to explain my thought process. I was then offered to come up to the NYC for a four part interview. The onsite interview covered systems architecture design, REST service design, another set of coding problems, and a friendly non-intimidating hour covering 'soft skills' and career goals. I wouldn't classify the questions as difficult, but they were more thought provoking than most of the other interviews I went on.

Question 1
I was given a verbal description of a service and asked to write a REST style interface for it. The requirements kept evolving as the question progressed.
Three steps: Behavioral screen with the recruiter, followed by tech screen with an engineer, followed by virtual onsite with leetcode style questions in addition to system design and behavioral interview rounds.

Interview
I was contacted by a recruiter in January 2025, and scheduled a first-round live-coding interview with a tech lead. She was very helpful and supportive and it was probably the least stressful live-coding I've ever done. The interview involved coding functions for distributed architecture.
I was very quickly scheduled for a second and third interview, one a behavioral interview with the person who would be my manager, and a final live-coding interview with another engineer. The behavioral interview covered my experience with different technologies specific for the job and detailed coverage of one of my recent work projects. The final live-coding interview was also very relaxed and covered coding with data structures, specifically a linked list.
I was told the job was mine if the position was approved by the company's new owners, Wonder, after which I read that Wonder fired 25% of Grubhub's staff, and I haven't heard back since. The people I had the opportunity to talk to were magnificent, though.
