Phone interview was arranged through HR. Had a roughly 30 min conversation with the hiring manager two days after initial contact. Two days after the phone interview, I was invited to come into the office for an in-person interview the following week. I currently live on the west coast and when I inquired about how travel arrangements are made, I was informed that I would have to pay for my own flight and any lodging expenses. HR explained that there were plenty of candidates already in Chicago, so it didn't make sense for them to fly me out. Conversely, it didn't make sense for me to pay my own way, so I declined their invitation for an in-person interview.
