I applied, as I aligned with every bullet of the JD's requirements and desired experience listed. I met with a recruiter. We had a great conversation, and I was moved to the assignment while on the first call. They sent me the assignment, and submitted it just over 2 days later, having spent 8 hours putting it together. I was moved to the next screen the morning after submitting that assignment.
The recruiter gave me some topics to prepare for the interview with. I spent a few hours preparing for the call, as I would for any interview. I join the call and I am asked only two questions by the interviewer, both essentially verifying things on my resume and that were covered in the first interview. We did not cover any of the topics I was told to prepare for. The interviewer then asked me for my questions for him-when we're barely 5 minutes into the call. During this time, I tried to find a few opportunities to share relevant examples of my impact and data to back it up. I also had to ask additional questions since I wasn't prepared for over 10 minutes of Q+A time. I thought these questions demonstrated my business acumen; one example is when I asked how the team feels about data and metrics, since the assignment I completed focused on recruiting metrics "that matter" and are effective for measuring recruiter performance. He said that the team does not need data or metrics, they care instead about getting stuff done. This confused me given the assignment's focus.
The interviewer spoke about 80% of the call, and never referenced the assignment I spent so much time on. He bragged that the technical recruiters "do not care at all" about other recruiter goals or data, and therefore there is no need for team-wide cohesion. The role I was interviewing for was 100% in office, which I was excited about, but the interviewer said he only comes in a few days a week.
After all the effort I made interviewing, completing the assignment, and preparing to meet, the interviewer never made eye contact, did not try to learn anything about me, and then in a very cagey manner, told me he'd chat with the recruiter and get back to me.
After spending 8 hours on my assignment, he did not ask about it and it did not seem he read it. I have no idea how the interviewer was able to glean any signal from that interview, notably for the reason he spoke for a significant majority of the interview time.
The recruiter rejected me the next day, citing they want someone with more experience at various companies. Even if this was an accurate assessment and they wanted beyond the job description, my experience was apparent from my resume at all times: during the team's sourcing and first phone screen, assignment, and before my second interview I spoke about above. Either way, that was a lot of my time wasted just for the team to leave me with such vague, inaccurate and unhelpful feedback.
