I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at HCA Healthcare (Nashville, TN)
Interview
Didn't even get that far. The recruitment process they use is terrible. The position has been open for over a year. Had applied earlier, but since my email address was already in the outsourced system (Taleo) they use it was impossible to apply again with the same email. Applied with a new email and got an acknowledgement. Then got an email saying that a "personality survey" is required to keep the process going forward. The survey is some kind of hack Myers Briggs assessment with ridiculous questions like "At work, some people make things difficult for you on purpose, agree or disagree". 297 questions. Then, an hour later get an email that says "We appreciate your interest in our organization. Based on the information that you provided us, however, we are unable to meet your current salary expectations. Consequently, we are unable to pursue employment opportunities with you at this time."
Pretty funny considering that I said in the required salary: 'negotiable'.
It was a multi-panel interview with various levels of the specific hostpital and corporate HCA leaders. I met with nursing, physicians, department I would be joing, human resources and exectuvie leadership.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
What am I bringing to the organization.? Why should they hire me.
I interviewed for a Director-level role and went through two rounds. Unfortunately, the process felt disorganized and not aligned with the seniority of the position.
First round: The hiring manager arrived late and mentioned personal obligations. The conversation lasted only a few minutes, mainly to explain that I would be asked to complete a take-home assignment. The instructions provided were inconsistent, and I was told I could “work on it over the weekend,” which felt unprofessional for a senior-level process.
Second round: The follow-up was scheduled for only 30 minutes. Again, the interview started late. The conversation focused entirely on reviewing the assignment, which was treated more like a finished product than an exercise. There was no opportunity to discuss my experience, the team, or the role itself.
Follow-up: A few days later, I received a generic rejection email that didn’t mention the position or provide any feedback.
Takeaway:
The process lacked structure, transparency, and respect for the candidate's time. For a senior leadership role, I would have expected a more focused discussion on strategy, leadership, and collaboration rather than a mis-scoped exercise and rushed conversations.
4 interviews completed within 4 weeks. Very front heavy and then ended up getting ghosted. The pay was low compared to competitors and the benefits are poor. 401k vesting is an insane 6 years! It’s an indicator of poor retention. No LTIP offered. Overall a very sour experience.
