I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HPR (Needham, MA) in Jul 2019
Interview
For me, it started with a conversation on LinkedIn with a company recruiter. The recruiter setup a ~30 minute phone call with me to ensure both sides had matching interests. After that, it was apparent that the job was very close to what I was looking for and I might have the right skill set for it, so we setup another phone interview but with one of the company's software engineers. That call lasted about 30-45 minutes and was almost entirely technical.
After passing through that, I was invited in for a series of in-person interviews with some of the engineering directors and the more senior software engineers. These were again mainly technical, digging into my prior work experience and my domain knowledge. That day I was interviewed by 5 people at around 45 minutes each.
All in all, everyone was very polite and easy to work with. There was a lot of technical content so it's a good idea to freshen up on your skills, but it was also fine when I wasn't able to answer a question here and there. In my case, I had limited availability so each stage in the process was a full week apart but HPR was accommodating and looking to keep things moving. I was very pleased with the process and the people overall!
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There were a handful of questions about C programming, Linux, and networking.
Began with an initial 30 minute screening interview with HR followed by a 1 on 1 with the manager, 3 hour long online technical interviews, and a final onsite interview.
Four rounds of technical/coding questions, 30 min - one hour each. Interviewed with three engineers, a technical manager, and upper management. Everyone was kind and the HR rep was very helpful throughout.
I applied through college or university. I interviewed at HPR (Chicago, IL) in Sep 2020
Interview
Met with recruiter at career fair to being process:
90 min HackerRank: Must be completed in C but pretty straightforward
~15 min Recruiter Phone Screening: Talk about projects, emphasis on networking/c
2-2 hour interviews with devs: mix of ds questions in C and some bitwise operations. Found the ds questions were leetcode easy level.
2-45 min with more senior devs: more simple ds questions. Then went through a list of very specific C/linux development questions. Was caught off guard by these. Nothing too unusual, but I had not coded a networking project recently so missed a lot of them.
