      Human Resources Coordinator Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HackerOne (San Francisco, CA) in Nov 2017

      Interview

Position would be supporting Recruiter & HR Manager. Process included a phone call with each separately. They both explained to me the immediate need for this role; mostly scheduling & administrative tasks. Sounded like a very entry level role, things I had experience with which is why I was chosen to interview. After the phone screens; I was asked to come in for an onsite with the HR manager & Recruiter. For some odd reason, the IT manager & engineering manager were included as part of the panel. They both asked me about my interests in HR (I am a recent grad, a few internship experiences). After explaining my interests, they would ask me very long-winded hypothetical questions based on their own perceptions of what exactly HR does..... This lead to a very awkward interview. They didn't ask me about my experiences, work style, or anything relevant. I feel that these interviewers were not prepped on what exactly the role's scope/responsibilities/focus entailed, or on my background. This didn't match up to what was sold to me by both the recruiter & manager. After meeting with the two managers, the HR manager even admitted that their questions didn't pertain to anything this role would be doing for their first year with the company. Next morning, the recruiter explained we would not be moving forward obviously and advised that much of the hypothetical questions they asked could be resolved by reaching out to a higher resource such as a manager... HR Manager & Recruiter were great and helpful, however I do not feel like they set up myself or the interviewers for success. Grateful to be considered for the role!
