I applied through an employee referral. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at HackerOne in Sep 2022
Interview
First interview was with a recruiter (voice only, which I find unusual for a remote-first company) who read the company description as well as the job ad that was posted online word by word as an attempt to explain what the position does. When asked about the Business Unit this position would work for, the recruiter did not know anything about it.
Second interview was with a Hiring Manager who passed me to the "Interview challenge", which consists of a mock call with a client and a personal presentation to introduce myself, in front of the HM and two other team members.
I prepared for three days for the challenge, reading documentation and preparing presentations. Was given great feedback (in the form of praise, but nothing constructive) during the meeting, and some other general interview questions followed through.
Two days later I received a generic rejection template from the recruiter. Further attempts to receive any feedback in order to understand what I could improve (not to question the decision) were not replied.
I was a referral which lead me to believe they would at least be more communicative, but the overall experience was very disappointing.
I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at HackerOne in Mar 2025
Interview
Transparent and informative interview process. From the beginning, the Recruiter was communicative of the process, salary expectations, role requirements, etc. She went above and beyond to prep me for each interview and follow-up immediately after. Although the Recruiter works for HackerOne, it almost felt like I hired this Recruiter to help me throughout the process, it was THAT helpful. Overall, the best interview process I've had in my career.

Recruiter was exceptional, and personified the warm & authentic culture at HackerOne. She was extremely proactive, and even checked-in routinely between interview stages to ask how I was doing etc. She was also very diligent and quick to offer clarifications, answer questions.
The interview stages were also impeccably organised. For the final stage, they even provided template material to use for building my presentation.
The whole process was handled extremely well, and it felt as though the interviewers were genuinely wishing for me to do well.
