      Research Interview

      Oct 10, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at Hanover Research

      Interview

The process began with a brief phone interview with a recruiter. The questions were typical, nothing out of the ordinary for the job description. Later, I was informed via email that the company wanted to move forward and I was to complete an assignment. Overall, the assignment was enjoyable for me, but was rather time consuming. Be aware/beware if you have any other commitment. After over a week, I was informed they did not want to interview me further. While I was, of course, disappointed, I was grateful the person with whom I was corresponding did so in a timely manner and kept me informed about the hiring timeline. There was a slight break down of communication at the end (further explanation of the decision was offered, I accepted, the information was never given), but I suppose that would have been the work of a very superior, considerate recruiter (I mean no offense to the recruiter) and is by no means the norm. That said, I do have a creeping feeling that I may have dodged a bullet. I only started reading the reviews of employees/former employees after receiving my rejection and I was frankly shocked! The work seems very interesting, but too many employees have reported having absolutely terrible experiences at Hanover for this to be some fluke. I would posit there are some structural or cultural issues undermining Hanover as a work place that should be addresses by management ASAP. In sum: Though I had an overall positive interview experience, I would urge those applying to read the reviews! Don’t let others make your decision to apply/accept a position, but know there is likely merit in what they are saying. You’ll find a job, you don’t need to settle if you are feeling uncertain!

Thank you for your feedback. I am glad your interview experience was positive. I also suggest anyone considering Hanover do their own due diligence and contact former and present Hanover staff through their alumni networks, etc. in addition to relying on reviews posted on sites like Glassdoor. These reviews, both positive and negative, only provide a one-dimensional perspective into any employer while being able to speak to someone would allow for a deeper review into areas that are of specific interest or concern to a prospective employee.

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Hanover Research

      Interview

This process took about 3 weeks total and began in February. I submitted my application materials, then had a phone screening interview with a very friendly recruiter, completed a homework assignment (I had a week to do so), and then had two phone interviews with upper level employees and an entry level associate. I should also mention that I had an employee referral and that was very helpful in getting my application materials read. A word of advice in interviewing, everyone is very friendly but also very sharp, so prepare well.

Thank you for your feedback and welcome to Hanover! I am glad you had a positive experience working with our recruiter as well as our hiring team. Over 25% of our hires come from referrals so you are correct that it is an effective way of ensuring that application materials are reviewed however all applications regardless of source go through the same rigorous interview process. I encourage anyone who does not have a referrer at Hanover to still apply online. Every single application (and we receive over 9,000 a year) is reviewed by a recruiter, not a computer, with the top applications moving through to the next phase of the process.
