I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Headway (NY) in Jul 2024
Interview
Phone interview with recruiter, practical interview with a member of the sales team, behavioral interview with sales leadership, and a final quick chat with the head of sales. Followed by a reference check.
I was a bit scared by the posts but I found the interview process to be very engaging and challenging in a good way. Some comments mentioned the behavioral interview being particularly aggressive and intrusive, but they were all pretty standard interview questions to get a better feel for your work experience and problem solving methods.
The practical interview involved me role playing a warm call with an inbound lead interested in using their property as an Airbnb. It was basically a test of active listening, controlling a sales call, and closing a deal. I found it to be fairly straightforward and, if I’m being honest, a pretty fun experience. If you’ve been in the professional world for a while and gone through interviews, this one is definitely a bit different than most, but i wouldn’t shy away from the challenge before seeing it through.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Can you think of a time in your career that you are particularly proud of an accomplishment? What was the situation and whta positive impact did it have on the organization?
I was initially very excited about this opportunity. The compensation was below industry standard, but given the mission, I was willing to be flexible.
The final interview started off well, with one interviewer who was warm and easy to talk to. However, a second interviewer sitting in was noticeably rude and dismissive for much of the conversation. Toward the end, when I tried to get clarity on a few points, the tone became sarcastic and dismissive rather than collaborative. It felt less like a conversation and more like being tested or caught out, which was enough that I withdrew from the process shortly after.
It also seems like this company overextends its employees, expecting people to take on far more than is reasonable, especially given the below market pay.
The unfortunate truth is that candidates are evaluating a company just as much as the company is evaluating them. This experience made clear that isn’t fully understood internally, and how someone is treated in an interview says a lot about how they’d be treated as an employee.
