I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Headway (NY) in Jul 2024
Interview
At the time that I was job searching, I was interviewing with about 6 different companies, and Headway stood out to me as the most organized and enjoyable process. While the interview process had many steps, it allowed me to get a well rounded sense of people and viewpoints at the company, as well as plenty of time to get all my questions answered. Something that stuck out to me as a positive was that after getting accepted to move onto 2nd and 3rd round interviews, there was a call with the recruiter for "interview prep," the intention being to promote equitable interview experiences and start everyone off with a clear idea of expectations. I think any organization that takes steps towards promoting fair and equitable interview processes speaks highly of their values. To recap, the process included 1) A screener call with the recruiter 2) A take home project 3) A mock sales interview 4) An additional interview leadership 5) A final 15 minute call with senior leadership
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
General questions talking about your career and accomplishments, questions about situations that you wish you would have handled differently, why you're interested in Headway specifically, what you look for in a culture, etc. I'm not able to recall all the questions, but I know they were covered in the interview prep session with the recruiter, and I felt adequately prepared.
I was initially very excited about this opportunity. The compensation was below industry standard, but given the mission, I was willing to be flexible.
The final interview started off well, with one interviewer who was warm and easy to talk to. However, a second interviewer sitting in was noticeably rude and dismissive for much of the conversation. Toward the end, when I tried to get clarity on a few points, the tone became sarcastic and dismissive rather than collaborative. It felt less like a conversation and more like being tested or caught out, which was enough that I withdrew from the process shortly after.
It also seems like this company overextends its employees, expecting people to take on far more than is reasonable, especially given the below market pay.
The unfortunate truth is that candidates are evaluating a company just as much as the company is evaluating them. This experience made clear that isn’t fully understood internally, and how someone is treated in an interview says a lot about how they’d be treated as an employee.
