      Backend Engineer Interview

      Jan 13, 2025
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Tel Aviv
      No offer
      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 4 weeks. I interviewed at HiBob (Tel Aviv) in Dec 2024

      Interview

Very positive interviewing process! Everyone at the company was super sweet and made me feel like they want me to succeed. Super nice and warm people. I got through all the interviews and they ended up signing someone else which sucked because they left a very good impression on me. Pretty standard process - short HR phone call, then coding interview, then design interview, then HR and management interviews. The first technical interview was a bit longer than others since it composed of a coding question, SQL question and a small feature design question (which focused mainly on how you would structure data). All the interview questions (coding and design) were taken out of their product and real problems they faced, that's a very positive thing imo.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Coding question: I was given a sorted (by date) list L1 of Tuple2. Each Tuple2 contains Role and Date this Role is activated. Also I was given a list L2 of Dates. The task is to print Role from L1 by Date in L2. SQL question: Do that role finding but through an SQL query on a database were the lists are tables (and are not necessarily sorted) feature design: Design the feature of surveys with 2 different types of questions. (Focused on structuring the data in the code and in the DB)
      Answer question

      Question 2

System design question: Design a system for the users to upload very large CSV files (in this case with their employee's information). How would you parse and structure the data, what kind of calls do you need to make from the client and what are the responses, how would you handle large files and/or large amount of users doing it as the same time

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HiBob in Sep 2025

      Interview

The process was a bit long but very clear and well-organized. It started with a technical interview with two developers, followed by a design interview with team leads, then a conversation with the Group Lead, and finally with HR and the VP of R&D. Everyone was kind, professional, and informative, and the response came back really quickly.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The first interview appeared here in a few variations. In the design interview, I was asked to present the design of a project I had worked on.

      Application

The process took 1 week. I interviewed at HiBob (Tel Aviv-Yafo) in Jul 2025

      Interview

During the Zoom interview with 2 technical persons from HiBob company, they sent me a link (via the Zoom chat) to an online IDE on codesignal.com, and gave me the assignment to implement. You can choose whatever language you want, I chose Java.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

So, in their predefined java project, there are 2 classes: MeetingRoom.java public class MeetingRoom { int capacity; String roomName; } and MeetingRoomFinder.java import java.time.LocalDate; import java.util.List; import java.util.Optional; public class MeetingRoomFinder { public List meetingRooms; public MeetingRoomFinder(List meetingRooms) { this.meetingRooms = meetingRooms; } public Optional bookMeetingRoom(LocalDate date, int numOfPeople) { return null; } } and they asked me to implement the method bookMeetingRoom to return an available room for that date, with the smallest capacity that sufficient for that number of people.
