      Manager-In-Training Interview

      Jan 4, 2014
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 days. I interviewed at Hollister Co.

      Interview

Usually you'll be asked to do a meet-and-greet with the Store Manager. This meeting has two general purposes: to see if your personality will fit in with the company, and to see if you're attractive. If you aren't attractive and the SM sets up an interview for you they'll most likely get in trouble with the District Manager. You don't have to be gorgeous but you're expected to be a representation of the company and your face just happens to be important. Make sure you bring a good resume with you. Avoid anything that's more than one page long. You should have a Bachelor's degree and so any information from high school should be omitted. I don't know how often people are overlooked because their resume is extremely poor. And if your GPA isn't listed they'll assume you've omitted it because it was really bad. Or at least my boss does. If you pass the meet-and-greet the SM will set up an interview with the DM. ASK QUESTIONS! Usually the stores really need managers, new managers are a requirement for old managers to get promoted, so they'll be happy to offer up any tips to help you successfully interview. Please stay calm. No nervous giggling or shaking, you don't want to come off as weird. Being weird is ok, but its all about being presentable. Dress the part. If you come in a business suit you'll probably be laughed at. They even wear jeans and flip flops at the home office and that's completely acceptable to wear to your interview. If you're a girl, please wear jeans. Even for Hollister shorts and minidresses are a bit inappropriate for an interview. Guys please be clean shaven and girl's please wear light makeup. They want you to look nice but its all about natural beauty. If you have strangely dyed hair or facial piercings they might hinder you from getting the job. Take out the piercings if possible and you might be asked to dye your hair before you can actually work. You don't necessarily have to remove these things for the interview, but it might be a good idea to let your interviewing DM know that you are willing to make a few changes for the sake of the job.

      Application

      Interview

Attended interview was store manager, was told it went well and I would be invited back to speak with the area manager. Also told that went well. Was then told they didn't currently have any jobs open in the store even though they had advertised for that store and was offered stores no where near me. I opted to remain interested and they said they would let me know if something came up. After 4 months I saw they were advertising again for my local store so i contacted the recruitment consultant and said I was still interested in and was told that I was no longer what they were looking for in a candidate.
