      Interview

The interview process at Honey was great. The recruiter and interviewer were friendly and professional. The process consisted of a HR phone call, a Hiring Manager phone interview and an in-person 'full day' interview with PMs and executives from the company. The interview questions were more interesting than what I've been used to. I was asked a variety of design, business strategy and behavioral questions that sparked interesting conversations each time, instead of the formality they can sometimes feel like.

They test your ability to think about how to design and build features and products, why customers use them, your understanding of their competitive space and industry, among others.

I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Honey

      Interview

I was referred + I had one phone screen with a recruiter. I was actually really excited about the company and opportunity. The recruiter that I spoke with had seemed to already make up her mind about whether or not she thought I'd be a good fit for the whole. That's fine.. that's part of the job when screening resumes. But if you don't think I'd be a good fit, then why schedule a phone call? How am I supposed to have an open dialogue with someone who starts the call with a cold and robotic tone? She asked me rhetorical questions like.. "Why did you leave your role at X company in less than 1 year?", with a negative tone -- which I thought was ironic, because she had a stint that lasted 8 months. I've been asked that question before and it's easy for me to answer. I got a better offer and I really believed in the product. That happens. It's life. I've never had anyone ask me with that tone. The tone was unnecessary and left a bad taste in my mouth. She didn't ask me questions about past projects I had worked on. Just your basic cookie cutter questions: why honey, tools I've used, etc.. This experience unfortunately didn't align with what I had seen from other candidates and employees on Glassdoor/through word of mouth. There are just some recruiters that don't care.. but if that's the case.. why be a recruiter? It's a bad reflection of the company and these employees shouldn't be responsible for any external facing communication in my opinion. If you don't think I'd be a good fit, that's fine. But please don't schedule a call just to ask questions with a negative implication. I have a loong list of things I'd rather be doing than prepping for an interview and getting on the phone with a disrespectful employee. I never leave reviews and this is probably the only time I'll do it just because my experience was so disappointing. I hope this review helps the team improve their selection process and communication style. This is a hard time for literally everyone, but especially candidates. You don't have to guarantee someone a job, but just be nice, respect their career journey and time.

Thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We are sorry to hear it was a negative one. We certainly don’t want to cultivate this type of culture and can assure you we are taking this feedback seriously.
