Interviewing with NYC Ferry/Hornblower was one of the worst decisions in my job search. First of all, they don’t have a dedicated, pleasant and quiet office space, it’s in an older building in the Brooklyn Navy Yard with multiple entrances, and what’s worse is that their main office is beside a loud NYC Ferry warehouse. Masking policies there are super lax, something I was personally not comfortable with, and I kept my mask on throughout the process. The interview itself was short, brief and it gave me the chance to explain my experience and expectations coming into the role. I was happy because my interviewer was condescending at times, especially when I asked my own questions, but they seemed engaged and I left thinking I would be considered for next steps. Fast forward to today, I interviewed nearly a month ago and they had the audacity to send a generic rejection email after having invested a lot in preparing for a phone and in-person interview. I got the impression they had no sense of urgency regarding recruiting for this role and added no value for me professionally to be a better interviewee. I would NEVER recommend anyone work with them, at least not until the city properly owns the ferry system, and does not outsource it to an operator like Hornblower.
