I applied through an employee referral. I interviewed at Houzz (San Diego, CA) in Dec 2016
Interview
Glassdoor is really helpful in giving you the interview questions. Literally each question you see on glassdoor is asked during the interview. I found my first recruiter, Chris, very helpful at first. I did a phone interview and then went onto a Skype interview in hopes of working in the San Diego office. After my interview, the recruiters and the girl who interviewed me were extremely rude. They wouldn't get back to me and wouldn't give me feedback. I emailed each of them probably three times and never heard a response from any. Something needs to be done about that and someone needs to teach the recruiters how to do their job because clearly they aren't doing it. I then wanted to interview for a different location and they contacted me saying I don't meet the specifics of the role. Again recruiters were really rude and it completely turned me off from working at Houzz. I have no interest in working there now since all their employers are so rude. The people who are in charge of the recruiters need to do something about them because they shouldn't treat people who want to work for their company so badly.
Phone screening, two in-person interviews. Very basic get-to-know-you kind of questions. They were interested in what you were like in high school. They used to have the philosophy that your high school performance dictated your professional performance. Not sure if this is still the case.
The interview process was lengthy and you have to go through a fair amount of interviews. There are basic question & answer interviews, and then there was a simulated customer experience interview as well.

Very friendly and informal. First couple of rounds were online, than in-person. One of the steps required to do a mock conversation with a potential customer. Overall, a very positive experience.
