      Marketing Interview

      San Jose, CA

      Positive experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 3 days. I interviewed at Houzz (San Jose, CA) in Apr 2015

      Interview

I went through 3 rounds of interviews. 1st round was on the phone. I think it was with one of their interns as well. 2nd round was through Google Handout. Both ladies were really nice and explains how the job functions. 3rd round was scheduled with a higher level person but I don't think he was a manager or anything. I had to email to remind him of our appointment. Overall experience was pleasant. I think the company has these student interns/employees interviewing people is a very nice way to have everyone engage in the hiring process and feel like they are part of the company and its future.

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Houzz

      Interview

Position was listed as fully remote. Initial interview was very awkward, felt forced and weird. Was then told 2 weeks later that the position was no longer remote and I would need to move to be able to commute into office. Very bait/switch like and overall a terrible experience and waste of time.

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Houzz

      Interview

There were two interviews, one qualifying phone interview and one Skype interview. The Phone interview was with the recruiter, went great lasted about an hour and my thank you email was answered with a next steps and request for Skype interview with the direct report. Very easy person to talk to and I felt like they asked very relevant questions. Showed up on Skype for the second interview (half an hour was blocked for the meeting), no one showed up for 8 minutes, then voice only, they needed to restart due to technical issues. Once everything was going it was already 15 minutes in and the whole interview was severely rushed, seemed like I was taking up their time. I researched not only the role but the direct report and they seemed almost annoyed that I looked up information. Sent thank you note and only received canned "no thanks" response from the @noreply email. its a shame that we clearly did not jive immediately but it felt as if there was nothing to be done to convince the person to hear me out. Maybe another department would be a better fit one day. While I think this company seems like a great place to work, I have high hopes that with a different person there might be a better connection. I also wish that they had of just canceled the second interview beforehand as it seemed a waste of both of our time.

      Interview

Phone interview with very basic questions like "Tell me about yourselves" and etc. The girl interviewing was easygoing and did not sounded like a hiring manager -- more likely that Houzz asked other intern to phone interview interns.
