      Account Executive Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at HubSpot (Dublin, Dublin) in Jul 2018

      Interview

1 round. Talk to recruiter about your experience, why hubspot, what is inbound, why do you wanna move job. 2nd round: Speak to the team lead, tell your experience , what is inbound, what do you know about hubspot, tell me about a situation where you failed, Tell me about a situation that you are proud of. Over all an hour conversation. team manager seemed excited at this round. 3rd round. Role play. Recruiter prepares you before to give some tips. However they missed to mentioned that you will do 2 different scenarios on the phone. They told me it would be the same scenario 2 times but it wasn't. Team manager was ok during role play however he changed the story suddenly the 2nd round and caught me off guard a little and i was nervous. He acted hard to get customer and gave me feedback that i have to be hard on the customer and force customer to buy now..so i did in the kindest way possible and agreed with customer to set up next call for the week after as it seemed like if they wouldn't take the step now it would have a major impact on the company. After the role play i heard a bad tone in the managers voice and i knew he wasn't happy and he suddenly turned rude. Next day i got a email from recruiter saying that the team manager doesn't think i have enough experience to close deals as i was "too nice" on the phone. I got annoyed with the attitude in regards to this. I have over 5 years of experience in sales and actually have a job in sales to date with over achieving my targets every month since i started my current job. I took the call with them as i had heard good things about the company. I thought it was a strange way of working forward as i felt they didnt take in consideration that i was nervous. They said before the call that i shouldnt take the call too serious as they know its a pressured call and that they will train you at work but apparently that wasnt right. Over all i thought i was really excited about the company but after that team managers attitude on the end of the role play where he suddenly acted rude threw me off the excitement. They told me to apply again in 6 months. Im not sure i am interested again after that experience.

Thanks for taking the time to write a review, and I'm sorry we missed the mark in communicating expectations during the interview process. Our team is working on some resources to help ensure you as a candidate have a thorough understanding of what to expect in the interviews so that there are no surprises. Ultimately, the interviews are going to be challenging, but we want to make sure the expectations and the feedback throughout are clear. I really appreciate your feedback - it highlights a core area where we can get better. Best, Becky

      Interview

Very thorough and transparent interview process. Make sure you come well-prepared and can confidently speak to your ability to consistently execute 50+ outbound calls per day. I would also recommend highlighting a structured sales system you’ve successfully used and be prepared to walk through it in detail—from territory mapping and prospect research to outbound outreach, meeting generation, pipeline management, and follow-up cadence. The more you can demonstrate a repeatable, process-driven approach to generating results, the stronger your candidacy will be. Additionally, have specific metrics and success stories ready that showcase how your system has translated into meetings, opportunities, and revenue.
