Interview
Applied online. Recruiter responded 2 weeks later and ask to set up a phone interview with the recruiter. A few days after my call with the recruiter, they set up an in-person interview. At that moment, I was too excited and did not find this strange considering I was not based in SoCal and I had not spoken to the legal hiring manager or other legal team members.
I arrive on-site and met with 5 attorneys. The questions were reasonable and what you expect. There were a few hypotheticals and behavioral questions. Overall, the interview was standard. The only "this may not be going well moment" I had was with one of the attorneys who did not seem very friendly and keep asking me about my law firm experience. My last interviewer (the legal hiring manger) told me he would discuss with the team and next steps would be to complete a drafting exercise. I left looking forward to next steps.
A few days later my recruiter calls and leaves a voicemail. The voicemail said everything went well but they are going to go with someone "a little heavier". I called the recruiter back. . .no response or return call of course. Sometime pass, I email the recruiter and ask for feedback so that I can improve on future interviews. I am told I had positive feedback and there was no feedback to share with me. In retrospect the entire process seemed somewhat odd and left me confused.

Question 1
Tell me about a time you worked with a difficult part?
I applied online. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Hulu (Los Angeles, CA) in Nov 2018
Interview
The process is very straight forward. I applied to the position online. A friend of mine works for the company so I asked if he could refer me internally. He did.
Step 1: I got a call from HR. We talked about my experience, my transitions, and my goals. The HR person was very friendly and kind. She made kind and encouraging comments in several opportunities. This call was approx. 30 minutes long. She scheduled a facetime call with me to occur 2 days later.
Step 2: I had a facetime call witht he HR person. This was a very brief call. She mentioned that if everything went well, that the next steps would be to talk to somebody at Hulu. She scheduled that phone call shortly thereafter.
Step 3: I had a call with the attorney at Hulu. She talked about the position, what they are looking for and provided general information about the team. I provided my experience, my background and my excitement for joining the team.
Step 4: HR person contacted me on the same date and told me I had to do a writing exercise. Basically, HR sends you a Software Licensing Agreement or any other IP related transactional agreement and the candidate is supposed to redline it and make comments, suggestions, edits. It was a very simple Software Agreement. The HR person explains that you have 2 hours to review the agreement and send it back. You will schedule a time-frame to do this exercise.
Step 5: I was contacted almost 2 weeks after the exercise that they moved forward with another candidate.
I sent an email to the HR person thanking her for the time she put with my candidacy. She was extremely nice. She even told me that another candidate performed a little bit better in the writing exercise and that she looked forward to working with me on another opportunity. She was truly amazing. Normally, you never hear back from HR if you did not receive an offer. She went out of her way to make me feel better that I did not get the offer. I am extremely surprised at how professional and nice this recruiter was. Hulu is lucky to have her.
I would like to add timing so you all guys know: I applied on October 9 online. My first contact with the HR was on November 1st. Be patient, prepare, review agreements, be polite and be yourself and you will nail it.
