      Product Designer Interview

      Application

      I interviewed at Hulu

      Interview

First, I met with a recruiter to review my background and ensure I matched the job description. Next, I met with a lead manager on the team and had an informal conversation. Last was a portfolio review of 2-3 case studies followed by a q&a. It was a quick process in comparison to other companies. While I did not receive an offer, I did get a personalized email detailing they were looking for someone more senior and encouraged me to apply again. They even referenced work they enjoyed. It felt like a genuine email instead a copy & paste rejection.

I applied online. The process took 2 months. I interviewed at Hulu

      Interview

One HR phone screener. One video interview. Then an onsite interview with multiple reviewers. It was very professional and everyone was very kind. I didn't get the offer, which is fine. But I wish I had gotten feedback about why this had been the case, after spending so much time in the process. I had asked but got no answer.

      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied through an employee referral. The process took 6 weeks. I interviewed at Hulu (Santa Monica, CA)

      Interview

I had a very positive experience with Hulu's interview process. I started with an employee referral and was immediately contacted by an internal recruiter. The recruiter was very thorough and provided immediate responses- kudos! This initial phone call with the recruiter was standard. He mainly wanted to make sure I understood the role, met their qualifications and had done a little homework on Hulu. Within a week I was contacted by the same recruiter to set up a 1:1 phone interview (over Zoom) with the hiring manager. This was an hour long, structured conversation to understand in detail how I problem solve, talk about my work and to assess if I would be a good cultural fit for Hulu. Culture is really important so they want to be sure you're collaborative and respond well to constructive feedback. About 2 to 3 days later, I was asked to come on-site for an in-person interview with the hiring manager and a handful of team members I would potentially be working with. The recruiter also asked me to prepare a 1 hour presentation of 2 projects in my portfolio. The on-site interview was an all-day event with four (4) 1:1 (or 2:1) interviews, lunch and the portfolio presentation to the design team (about 5 people). Overall, everyone was genuinely interested in my work and background. They asked great follow-up questions and described their roles and experiences so I felt comfortable with the process and culture at Hulu. Overall great experience. They extended an offer 2 weeks after my on-site interview.
