Initial communications with the recruiter started out pretty standard, although it took a very long time to get the initial phone screen scheduled. The recruiter was pretty slow to respond to emails throughout the entire interview process, with multiple days in between emails, and every email was short and overall not very personable.
We scheduled a time for a phone screen, and then I waited for the call the day of. The recruiter called 15 minutes after the call was originally supposed to happen, and when she finally did call, there was no introduction at all, just jumping right into questions. Nothing wrong with that I guess; everyone has their own style. The biggest problem though was that the recruiter made me feel like I was inconveniencing her with this phone call. She actually groaned and sighed before each question. She sounded so uninterested, and she was clearly just checking off the typical questions of why I was looking for a new job, how I heard about the company, etc. Based on her attitude with me, I honestly got worried I had done something to offend her. Once she was finished asking her checklist of questions (that she was clearly not interested in actually hearing my answers), she did not give me an opportunity to ask any questions of my own. She finished the call, and said I would hear back from them within a week. I sent a thank you email that day, and hoped I would at least move on to the next stage to determine if the rest of the company was similar to this recruiter.
After a few days, I got an email around dinnertime asking if I could do a phone interview the next day. I responded immediately, gave my (open) availability, and asked when I could expect to get the call. Radio silence for three more days, then I finally got an email scheduling a phone interview with the hiring manager. The hiring manager was much friendlier, and asked more of the same pretty standard questions, nothing too difficult.
I did not end up getting an offer, but I'm actually kind of relieved. The recruiter was honestly just so unpleasant to deal with, that I was worried about what it would be like to work at a place that had this kind of person to represent them. I kept a smile on my face and a good attitude throughout the process, but it was honestly one of the most unpleasant, unprofessional interview processes I've ever been through.
