I was called by a talent acquisition team member who asked some questions about my experience, after which she put me forward for an interview with the hiring manager. During my interview with the hiring manager, I was not asked a single question. We started with some formalities and introductions, which seemed fine and friendly. As the conversation went on I realised I was not being asked any questions so I started asking questions about the role and the relationship with partners. After which, it was nearing the end of the interview and I was asked if I had any more questions. My response was that I have enjoyed the conversation, but want to ensure that you have what you need to see whether I was a good fit for for the role/team. The interviewer said she had no questions. (You may be thinking at this point, perhaps I am am not good at interviews or made a bad first impression. I would be the first to admit, however, I am quite experienced and pretty good at interviews, within other processes I am getting to the end or receiving offers. We had a good rapport and there was nothing to suggest otherwise.)
I heard back from the talent acquisition person who said, they were not moving me forward for that role, but that if I was interested in another role they would set up an interview. I asked for some feedback on the original role and explained that I wasn’t really given much opportunity to talk about my experience, however, I would be interested in the new suggested role.
I was then emailed back 2 days later with an apology as it was busy. I was then told that my CV had been shortlisted for the new suggested role and they would decide who to interview from the shortlist. So from saying I would have an interview to then ‘may have an interview’?
I then wrote back explaining that I was finding the process a bit frustrating. I had been interviewed, but that there seemed little if not no interest in actually learning about my experience for the role. Now my CV would be assessed for a possible other interview that they suggested I apply for backtracking from stating I would have an interview for. Also they had not spoken to me about my experience in relation to the new role. How would they robustly assess me and compare me to the other candidates. After all my CV was tailored to the original role.
I explained that I would like to withdraw my applications completely as I could not see how they were fairly and robustly assessing me for the positions with no intent of understanding my experience. It seems that they like to just look at CVs and do not qualify your experience, how can you assess candidates suitability without learning of their experience? I did not hear back.
Very odd! Never had to endure this before!
