The recruiter reached out to me about 45 minutes after I submitted an application on a weekend. I almost ignored it because I thought it was spam. The email had nothing about the job title that I was interviewing for nor did the recruiter mention his title or give any introduction. He signed it just “Thanks, [First Name].” I did end up setting up time for my interview and he called in 10 minutes late with no apology. He spent most of the interview telling me about the job’s team structure and although he didn’t ask about my experience at all, he did tell me I would be moving onto the next stage. When I mentioned I was interested in working remotely, he acted VERY weird and explicitly told me I was not to bring up during my interview with anyone on the team and that it was something that had to stay between me and him. He then had me send him my availability for the rest of the week to interview with the hiring managers while we were on the phone. I sent it over and then didn’t hear back. I followed up a week later, and he said that the team had a hiring freeze so he needed to make sure there was still head count available. Since then, I have heard nothing.
This was the most bizarre and unprofessional interview I have ever experienced. The recruiter was disorganized, chaotic, and unprofessional with no regard for my time. I was willing to meet with the hiring managers and give them the benefit of the doubt, but I honestly think this is a reflection of Instacart’s culture.
