      Senior Software Engineer Interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Integral Ad Science in Jul 2023

      Interview

There were 4 rounds of someone asking 1-3 experience question, one design, and one coding question. There was one technical conversation interview, which was more of a solution architect style interview. The interviews were pretty easy - they try to cram in a mini behavioral/system design/coding/ into each interview which is weird but ok. I was disappointed in the quality of one of the interviewers. He was a very inexperienced interviewer for someone at his career level. He arrived about 10 minutes and then blurted out instructions in a hurried tone (how else can he can make up for his tardiness, duh). So, typically at even a tier 2 company (which this place is not, apparently), if the interviewer is 10 minutes late (!!) they will bite the bullet and offer to reschedule, etc. out of professionalism. This guy actually said "Ok tell me your intro, and then immediately go into the first question which is to say something you did recently. No wait - just tell me something you did in the last two years. But something you did cool". And thats how he talked the entire interview. He would contradict his own instructions before he was even done talking lol. For the "system design" he asked a typical question about changing a batch system into a streaming system. But also for the "system design" he apparently hadn't thought through which system design tool to use. So he instead of being prepared, he insisted that I use the Zoom tool, to save time? Makes sense, because letting the candidate use a tool they are comfortable with would be silly, after all. The funny part is that some part of his brain actually thought he was making up for time (again, for him being late) by having these non-linear conversations with himself. "Pick a tool you like - NO WAIT just use this Zoom whiteboard. Yes use the Zoom whiteboard… just use the zoom whiteboard".

      Interview questions [5]

      Question 1

1st interview - 3 coding questions, easy-medium ish. The interviewer just wanted the algorithm though, no coding. It wasn't very hard. Next part - asked some experience questions 3rd part - asked a system design question about sending out emails/texts from a very large notification system.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Integral Ad Science in May 2026

      Interview

Interview Process very friendly and standard leetcode style coding + system design interviews. Total of 4 interviews, order was: recruiter screen, then a first technical interview leetcode round where I had to do a medium level string manipulation problem, then a pure system design round, then a combined coding and system design round where I solved 2 leetcode problems around 15-20 min each and a system design around 20 min with some questions on my resume. The third interview of combined system design and coding the interviewer would move ask the next question once she could tell I had the solution. First interviewer was very friendly and helped correct typos I made in the shared coding environment while I worked on the meat of the problem. Great balance of listening to my thought process, asking important questions, and being collaborative to help me remember syntax and collaborate on the solution. Second interviewer was very friendly and positive about the parts of my solution that he liked even though I struggled on the system design question picked. Third interviewer was very intelligent and asked great questions to confirm my understanding on the leetcode problems and let me succeed at thinking of the solutions at the same time and the system design I had more familiarity with the type of question and she had good direction and interaction level. I passed all the technical rounds and was scheduled for a hiring manager round but in between taking the last round they had internal reorgs likely due to a recent private equity takeover and paused the role.

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Integral Ad Science (New York, NY) in Aug 2025

      Interview

HR screen, Coding interview round, need to run the code and produce required output, system design round. As an observation, the person who did the system design round seemed uninterested in listening to what I was trying to explain, frequently interrupted, at times raised his voice , frequently asked the same question without letting me finish the answer.felt that interviewer was in no mood to hire anyone.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

1)arrange all anagrams from a list of strings into list of lists. 2)Design a system, no board was given instead a coding platform was provided to just add arrows. Answered the question correctly and even checked it with different solutions provided by all great system design engineering courses. still the interviewer tried to disagree and instead started digging into my resume to question why particular design decisions were made with my current and previous workplaces.
