Interview questions [1]
Question 1
There really was no unexpected questions. They did go into specifics about some protocols that I was not prepared to answer however, it didn't seem to be a deal breaker.
I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Isilon, A Division of EMC in Jul 2013
Interview
There were three total interviews, an initial semi-technical phone screen, a technical phone screen, and an in-person personality & technical interview. The technical phone screen was a bit tough as it dealt with all sorts of areas of the product, from file system protocols such as SMB and NFS, to network technologies. The range of these questions went from the most basic to some very advanced questions such as 'What is the difference between a Level 1 and Level 2 OpLock in SMB?'
The in-person technical interviews (there were 2, back to back) more or less similar to the phone screen. They asked questions from the most basic to the most advanced, to probe how deep (or superficial) your knowledge goes. One particular question I liked was "When you load a browser and go to a specific webpage, what happens on the network, from start to finish?"
The personality interviews were easy, as I had years of experience with case management, customer relations, and CRM systems.
