      Application

I applied online. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at JCB (Rocester, England) in Feb 2018

      Interview

At first we were taken to one room where we were given the opportunity to meet all the candidates. There were around 12 to 14 candidates. We were taken up to a meeting room were we were introduced to the managers at JCB and we were required to introduce ourselves, which means to state our educational background and the role we were interested in. Then, we were briefed on our shcedule for the day. First stage involved a competency based interview with two of the managers. They asked questions about the projects I have performed and also asked how much I know about their company. Second stage was a 50 minute witten test to evaluate mechanical comprehension. The first part was multiple choice and then the second part was written. Third stage was a 50 minute multiple choice paper comprised of 10 sections with 10 questions each, the first 3 were mandatory (about the company, basic engineering and physics). You are required to pick 2 optional sections from a range of categories (powertrains, manufacturing, finance, marketing and electrical engineering). There was a short networking section for an hour during the lunch break, this is the only chance you'll get to speak to the other managers at JCB. Final stage is a team building exercise, we were split into two groups and taken up in to separate rooms. As a group we were briefed on the task for 3 minutes and given an instruction card. The task was to build a pile of slotted slats into an assembly as demonstrated on the instruction card. The managers in the room will test you on your communication and team working skills.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

In the written test there was a physics question which involved pressure calculations and drawing a free body diagram, a question on geometrical tolerancing, a question about applied force on a bolt of thickness t and a trick question about finding the relationship between dimensions of a square and circle peg. The multiple choice is fairly easy, most questions are based on engineering terminologies and some require really simple calculations to be made.
