      Sales Assistant Interview

      Nov 16, 2016
      Anonymous employee
      Glasgow, Scotland
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied in-person. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at JD Group (Glasgow, Scotland) in Nov 2016

      Interview

I handed my CV in store, and got a missed call from them the weekend after, when i rang back 3 minutes later no one answered the phone, which was frustrating. The next day i went into the store and asked to see the manager, i was told to sit in the shoes area and wait. I waited for around 15 minutes before a girl came out to see me. She asked me if i was here for an interview and I told her what i wanted to ask 'how come they was ringing me the day before', she said it would have been to set up a potential interview. She then asked for my name and asked me if i could just wait 2 minutes whilst she went to her manager. She then came back to me asking if i would like to do an interview there and then to which i said i would. She took me through the stock room and down small corridors filled with racks of clothing to a little cubby hole closet which had a desk, filing cabinet and cctv camera screens. I was asked to sit on a office stool (which was dirty, and i was wearing a brand new expensive coat, so i felt abit un easy incase it was to stain it, luckily it didn't). The interview lasted a mere 5 minutes and consisted of my availability (to which she said that management were highly interested in me because i was fully flexible and that's rare for the store), also, she stated that a lot of experienced staff has recently left at the same time (this gave me speculation as to whether it was because of the stereotypical poor management that i have heard about). She went on to explain me that there can be levels of progression to manager and also Visual merchandiser. She explained that there would be training given, so i wouldn't be unknown to the store, I made it clear to her that i'd want to make sure that i was fully trained and knew how things worked before the store was to get extremely busy so then my job would be effective and purchases can be ran abit more smoothly. She agreed and said that I would be trained so I knew the ins and outs. The 'interview' wasn't like many others i had been too, she didn't ask me anything about what i knew about customer service, she didn't write anything down, there was no situational questions or competency questions like i had imagined, it was just a very informal and laid back chat about the job. The only thing she asked me really was 'Can you tell me abit about yourself'. It was nice to see that she had actually got my CV on the desk and she told me she read it as when she was talking about the prospect of promotion to visual merchandising, she did state that she read in my CV that i had an interest in that area and i had studies of the media within my qualifications. Which i thought was a nice thing to do, so it looked like she was sort of prepared to see me. To end the interview, she stated that they would be in touch within the next couple of days if i was successful and id be invited to an induction. Not bad to say i was just popping in to ask a question, haha. PS. i put i accepted the offer, i haven't heard back just yet, but if i was, i would accept :)
