I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at Jane Street in Jan 2012
Interview
Scheduled an in-person, half hour, technical interview after applying through college career site. Inteview began with a casual conversation about what the company did and the role of their software engineers. Honestly seemed to be a little high strung and stressed, advertising long work weeks from the get-go. Began with a basic quiz on function types, then asked to write a basic map function, and then make it tail recursive.
Interviewer seemed more interested in showing off his knowledge than asking about mine.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Write a tail recursive version of the map function
The process started with an initial virtual round, followed by an onsite interview. It included a mix of system design and coding problems focused on real-world system applications. Unfortunately, I didn’t perform well in the onsite, which was the most critical stage.
It was a very quick and painless process. Recruiter very responsive, kind interviewers. High implementation and difficult problems, so failed onsite after 3 interviews and a Question and Answer Session.
Did not pass the initial coding round. I tried to explain my thought in details to the interviewer but failed to translate my thought into code. So far interviewer is very nice.
