I applied online. The process took 5 days. I interviewed at Jane Street (Hanover, NH) in Jan 2020
Interview
Lots of math puzzle questions about probability. No prior knowledge needed, but having strong probabilistic intuition helped. Interviewer would propose a scenario and ask what your strategy would be, then had to talk through your reasoning with the interviewer.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
You have 100 white balls and your opponent has 100 black balls. You each can put as many balls as you want into a common pot. A third party randomly draws from the common pot, and who ever’s ball was drawn wins the amount of money equal to the number of balls they have left over. Assuming you know your opponent will put in 99 balls, how many should you put in?
Heard Jane Street has exciting internships for female students so I decided to apply. Filled out online application. Received a response for online assessment. The assessment was quite difficult for me. The interview was even harder. Lots of technical questions.

Question 1
Two players, flipping a coin until one player wins. A wins if the roll ends with HHT. B wins if the roll ends with HTT. What are the odds B wins the game.
very hard and demanding. they are very selective. they like puzzles and pushing you to think out loud. interviewers are nice though. would possible try in the future. maybe. will see
Asked to play a game and probability - the probability questions were easy, and the game had very little math. It was over an hour, closer to 1 hour 30 minutes. Over zoom
