I had applied for an associate manager position and I received a callback. We spoke for about ten minutes and she explained the culture of the store and made everything sound nice. When I got there for the interview, she began to express a great deal of reservations about my resume and said that I didn't have the background to be an associate manager. Instead, she went on to say, I was qualified for a part-time keyholder position that paid substantially less than the management role. If I were to accept that, she explained, I might be ready for an assistant manager role in a few years but there was no guarantee.

About the only question I was asked was to explain why I was qualified for the role. It was perhaps the most "bizarre" inteview I've had - at about 45 minutes in length, she literally did all the talking. And most of the talking centered around how it was complex and it would take a long time to come up to speed.

The entire process was grueling. This should have been a red flag. Whole thing was 6 weeks. First interview was with Store manager, 2 and half weeks later phone interview with area manager, which I had to keep following up with, because she didn't call me when she said she was. Third interview was with regional manager, which got a call the same day as interview, which was the most realistic and professional interview. Than 2 weeks later never heard anything and was so baffled at the non-communication and common courtesy to a candidate.

Interview
Many interviews, phone with HR, with Store Manager, and phone interview with Area Manager. The process takes a long time, the Store Manager cannot hire without approval from Corporate and the Area Manager. Each interview was different, the HR phone interview went well, the in person interview went well, but the Area Manager interview was long and I felt that the decision to not hire me had already been made
