      Communications Interview

      Jul 14, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Declined offer
      Negative experience

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at K12 in May 2017

      Interview

Full disclosure: this was a phone screen, not an in person interview. The hiring manager seemed very nice, but shortly into the call I was asked if I had children. Apparently, the last candidate didn't work out because they had children and couldn't work 60 hours a week. I believe the words used were "we have been burned from past hires." Right away I was turned off. When asked if I wanted to continue in the hiring process, I said no thanks. They may want to reevaluate what's going on in this specific department and their hiring process. I get being honest about the realities of the position to ensure a right fit, but the question is illegal. Furthermore, talking about past hires in a negative light is unprofessional, and the approach to getting at my willingness to work 60+ hours a week was off-putting.
