The KIPP interview process is among the most drawn out and elongated processes you could go through in order to be hired in education/ charter schools. The recruitment team at KIPP Philadelphia is borderline impossible to reach and will provide you with little to no information in terms of a timeline for being hired. Of the charter school organizations in the city, I would rank KIPP as the poorest in terms interview process and consideration of applicants. This is not a reflection on their teaching, student achievement or culture.
Expect to apply, receive a phone interview, be asked to complete a performance task and submit, and then go for at least one in person interview. For the performance task, expect to be asked to provide it within days but wait weeks to hear back about a next step. Your final interview likely is with the school leader and others in the building, questions are much harder than that of the phone interview and will pertain more towards your experience and the role you are applying for; rather than your willingness to adhere to their organizational philosophies. In person interview could last up to an hour or more.
I would expect the interview process to last as little as 6 weeks and as long as two or more months (possibly three) when applying here. If you need a job in a hurry, this is not the place to look. I have worked in, and applied at numerous other charter school's not just in Philadelphia, and have found the KIPP process to be the longest and most unprofessional in terms of lack of communication between myself and the woman working in recruitment in their regional office. KIPP's interview process while extensive, simply takes too long and I'm sure causes them to miss out on quality teachers who simply don't have time to wait months for a job offer. A two month plus long interview process is simply too long for most people and combined the lack of communication makes for a very stressful time as someone in the market for a job.
They seem to have a lack of regard for their applicants which is a shame because they do great things. I believe this issue could potentially be a result of just one or two members of their recruitment team who are less than exceptional at their given roles in terms of feedback and communication with applicants. You don't get a second chance to make a first impression and my first impression of KIPP's Regional Office was one of disorganization.
