About a month after applying received email for an interview from a recruiter. Went through a very typical screen process before moving onto the hiring manager. The interview with this hiring manager was a pretty blah as far as being engaging. It was more like a conversation which may be this particular manager's style. Fair enough. I gave very detailed responses but received very weak feedback to my responses. It was like the guy just got out of bed. It took about a week later before I heard anything which should not have been the case. I had to follow-up to get any feedback which is very typical with the job market nowadays. I got a very generic response as to why they were not moving forward. We've all heard them "tough decision", "a lot of very qualified applicants", "competition was high" blah, blah, etc, etc. I believe at this point everyone is very aware of the swollen labor market that it should not even been mentioned in the rejection. Long-story short they are basically filling these positions with the most senior level candidates that will mostly be gone in a year and are just looking for a high base as possible versus people that actually want to learn and grow. It's sad but that's the state of the job market from here to the foreseeable.
