Four interviews. Two with project managers, one in-person with engineering and technician team, final interview with CTO.
There was a lot of repetition in the technical questions asked throughout these four interviews showing a lack of communication between team members. Over the course of the weeks it took to conduct and access the interviews, the requirements of the position seemed to be changing, and there was a lack of agreement amongst the team members as to what role the prospective position would fill. At one point I was physically in the middle of a disagreement between teammates as to what the technician would be doing, which was awkward.
The style of interview was "drill" your knowledge which is fine, however also drill your character, which can become exhausting and after a while patronizing.
The soldering proficiency test was thrown together hastily. There was no wet sponge or cleaning pad to clean the iron tip. The solder tip was large and the engineer pointed to a the smallest, hardest to reach component and asked, "do you know what that is?" to which I responded "an 0402 resistor" and he said proudly "oh-four-oh-two!" and then he asked me to desolder it and replace it. The solder roll was bulky and not fine pitch. This was also a learning experience for me; I tried to make it work with the materials provided however I definitely should have spoke up.
Overall the five hours of interviews and thirty emails leading up to the final decision on this position were inefficient, poorly organized, and not respectful of the applying party's time.
