I had an initial phone screen from HR on January 9th, 2018 and then they called me in the very next day (January 10th) to interview with two top people from the team. The interview went very well and they even started the background process even though they were still interviewing candidates. My former employer was apparently going to take 10 business days to finalize the background check, and so I worked directly with the background company and expedited the background check by providing them various forms of documentation and eventually the background check was completed. I then received a phone call from HR on January 29th advising me that they wanted to pursue me and that I would have to return to have a meeting with HR to discuss salary, benefits and their offer process.
So, I returned on January 30th and met with a individual from HR. The HR person told me that I was seeing him because the team wanted to hire me and we discussed the role and the salary requirements and benefits and he then advised me that it would 2-3 weeks before they could prepare the offer. Apparently, there is a three-tier management approval process and it could take anywhere from 2-3 weeks. He also advised me to keep in contact with HR to make sure things were progressing, etc.
I kept in touch with HR during the 2-3 week time frame but they did not return my emails until the very end of that time period advising me that they were still waiting to hear from the team on how they wanted to proceed and that they miscommunicated that I was a Top Contender and not 'the' top contender of which I feel was inaccurate and unprofessional. Why call back Top Contenders and discuss salary, benefits and their offer process if you are not going to make them an offer?
As of today, March 5th, I have not heard back from Kubota and assume at this point that I am not going to get this job. I feel like they could have handled this entire process better and just been open and honest during the HR meeting if there was something that was going to prevent me from getting this job. I can only assume that perhaps my salary requirements were too high, but even then, I even gave them a range that the first HR person told me was okay on the phone on January 29th. I can only assume or speculate as to why they have suddenly changed their stance on this job, but the sad thing is that I really wanted this job and I really wanted to work for Kubota. I felt like I would have made an immediate impact with the team and I was very excited to learn new technologies and eventually help figure out some kind of reporting platform that the team would eventually manage as they were handling a lot of ad hoc reporting requests and would eventually have to take it on full time.
I hope that you have a better experience interviewing with Kubota in Grapevine.
