I applied through indeed, and was contacted a couple weeks later by a store associate reaching out to schedule an interview. I replied and scheduled, only to then be contacted by the store manager who told me we would need to reschedule, as he wouldn’t be available on the aforementioned day. The store associate then contacted me again, telling me the store manager wouldn’t be available and that I would need to reschedule the interview. This should’ve been a sign to me of disorganization and lack of communication. As suggested on the indeed page, I showed up to the interview 20 minutes early and prepared. Only the manager was present, and a few customers browsing. I patiently waited, close to a half hour after my scheduled interview time, after having shown up 20 minutes early. I browsed the showroom while the manager was helping customers, until he came up and said “if you waited this long, you’re hired!” He then admitted that he did not have a copy of my resume, even though I attached it to my application, and sent it through email. I explained who I am, and my work history and answered some of his basic interview questions. He asked if I had reliable transportation, to which I replied that I did, and that I am located very close by. He then asked if I owned a car, which seemed strange as the position he described was an in-store sales associate. Not a position that would require a personal work vehicle. His attitude instantly shifted and he then said “well, I only really needed to hire him” pointing to another associate, “but I wanted to see who could pull more sales. If you make enough sales, you could take my spot as store manager.” It comes off as a red flag to advertise your job position to the person you’re interviewing. The interview ended and he handed me his card, and told me to email him my resume. I did just that, and even followed up. I never heard back. Simply ghosted. Overall, the experience was negative, and the interview was difficult due to the lack of preparation and professionalism on their end. If the interview process was that disorganized, I can only imagine how it would be actually working there.
