The process is unduly onerous and does not correctly assess for skills to do the actual job. The firm is also really disorganized (this is not my first time applying for a position at L&W, and even years apart for a quite distinct role, the disorganization is a common theme). I applied online, and a day later, I received a form rejection email for a position I was perfectly qualified for. I wrote the firm off. Then, a month later, I received a video interview request. The last time I applied for a position, I ignored the video interview request because it seemed like too much trouble, and I had other options. Despite, this I was still contacted about next steps in the process (an assessment). This time, I decided to go through with the stupid video interview. I thought it was going to be a free-form structure with me making a pitch for myself, so that is what I prepared for. On the day of the interview, I had to try three different forms of technology (laptop, iPad, and phone) to get the Hirevue application to load. I don't know what kind of busted technology they are relying on. By the time I got the application to load on my third device, I was already quite annoyed, but I tried to put on my best fake/eager to please face. Instead of the structure the invitation email had led me to expect, I was taken through about five to seven canned questions, answers to which could have been found on my resume or expressed over the phone on a 10-20 minute HR screening interview that most other firms employ. I found the entire thing unbelievably annoying. About three weeks later, I received a form rejection email. Because I'm a masochist/can always use a good laugh, I always like to look up who was hired instead of me. In this case, the people hired instead of me had such wildly inferior credentials to mine that my eyes rolled so hard they almost got stuck in the back of my head. This just shows how foolhardy an enterprise the robot interview process is. Note to the firm: if you are going to waste well-qualified candidates' time with this nonsense, at least make sure your technology platform is sound. Further, your HR department really needs to get its act together--how can you have one person sending me an automatic rejection email seemingly without time to read my resume and two other people emailing me to schedule an interview and asking my salary expectations? Perhaps Hirevue was also an epic fail there too, resulting in your hiring of incompetent HR personnel. Advice to candidates: avoid this firm, and never forget it has the distinct honor of the only law firm ever verbed.
