I applied online and the hiring manager contacted me via email 3 weeks later. She said she was impressed with my resume and scheduled an interview. 5 days later, we had a video conversation about the position, the company, the work culture, my experience, and my qualifications.
It was a non-technical, behavioural interview to gauge the fit.
The interview started off in a professional manner with a general introduction of herself, her designation, and a brief summary of the position. She asked me about 10 general questions and in the end, she asked me if I had any questions for her. I asked her some questions about the position and a few general questions about the company's policies, its direction, and immediate goals pertaining to research (D'uh, it's an R&D Engineer position.)
She sounded uncomfortable because I felt she hasn't ever been asked such questions and wasn't prepared. It ended on an awkward note because she failed to glorify the company's image in response to my questions. And when I tried to follow up on the outcome of the interview, the hiring manager ghosted me. She did not reply to my emails (2 follow up emails.)
Tips:
If you want a job here, DO NOT ask hard questions.
Thumbs-down: A simple expectation of a reply to my follow-up emails was not met.
