I applied for an Executive Secretary position online. Within a couple of days, I was called for an in-person interview with 2 physicians. I did not get the job - they preferred someone with more experience, however the employment center's recruiter requested that I take a computer skills test the following week and then come back the 3rd week to have an in-person interview with her, so I am reviewing that experience instead.
I took the typing speed test and was told my score was good (70 wpm). I then took a Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint) skills test and was told my scores were excellent (above 90%). I then was given typed instructions of 2 scenarios and how I would handle them. One was regarding setting up a meeting and how I was going to invite the attendants and what I was going to do prepare the room for the meeting and the other was typing up a generic letter thanking a large group of volunteers. I was not informed of my results of these scenarios or if my responses were what they were looking for.
I then came back to meet with the recruiter. She asked me many questions (which I cannot remember) regarding how I handled certain situations at a previous job. A couple I specifically remember were "name a situation in which you protected the integrity of the organization" and "name a situation in which you used your judgement for the safety of others" There were probably about 20-25 of these types of questions and I felt my answers were professional and dead on but I wasn't not informed of what she thought of them.
I was then informed of the company benefits and asked what type of position I was looking for. I said administrative assistant to any of the departments, any type of clerical work that matched my skills and experience. I was then told that most "executive secretary" type positions required a minimum of 2 years medical administration experience (I have 8 years of administrative assistant experience but NOT in the medical industry) but to keep checking online EVERY DAY as positions are posted constantly and to apply to them. I was given a phone number to call to check on the status of my applications. 3 months later I have applied to a total of 10+ administrative assistant type positions and have not had any callbacks, and regarding the phone number to call to check on the status, the person who answers does not have any information except whether the position is still open or has been filled.
