      Senior User Experience Designer Interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 1+ week. I interviewed at Leesa (New York, NY)

      Interview

Set up a call with a recruiter. Everything went smooth at first. We had a nice lengthy chat about the company and my experience. When I pushed back about how there were many competitors in the space and how they were different, I managed to make out from a length conversation that they donate mattresses. Had a call set up with the CD and had a good conversation with him and was told they'd move me to the next round. A couple days went by and I heard nothing then I was asked to show more work- was my portfolio not good enough? Like really? Had to dig for some old projects and send that over, then I had a call with a PM and marketing. Was told they have no ui/ux designers and this person would be the sole ui/ux designer. That is fine but they didn't seem like they knew about this role was going to integrate with other teams. I got a run around of responses. I found the call to be short and the people I was speaking with having no questions for me but me having a ton for them. As for compensation- for a remote role with designers in the NYC area the comp wasn't that compatible to market rate. On a bit the low side for $110-$115. While I didn't move forward I found it completely unprofessional to not give me any feedback as to why. Especially after being told I was a great candidate and a "perfect fit". As much as I would have liked to work for this company there is way to much competition in their market space (purple, caspar, nectar, tuft and needle)...the list goes on. I see them folding up shop in 2-3 years unless they are bought out.
