LegitScript Research Attorney interview questions

I applied online and was promptly asked to complete an online screening. The instructions said that I should plan on it taking five hours. Which I understood to mean do it in five hours. The instructions said that I would log in and then click "my applications" or something to begin the questionnaire. Turns out the questions appear promptly upon logging in. I wasn't prepared for that and ended up starting my questionnaire sooner than anticipated. I did not have access to Westlaw at the time so I had to use various federal and state government websites to research the various issues begin questioned. I typed it all up as best as I could and clicked submit. Their website logged me out. I logged back in and sure enough none of my answers had saved. At that point, I had about half an hour left of the five hours. Luckily, I had typed some bits in a Word doc and was able to copy and paste those bits in and resubmit. I got a Do Not Reply message the day after with a hard no. I've never been more ashamed in my life. Legal research and writing is kind of my life so it hit hard. I would advise anyone serious about interviewing for this role to type everything up perfectly in Word and then copy into the questionnaire. I would also advise you that you will benefit greatly from Westlaw access. I thought I did OK without it, but I was apparently very, very wrong. On the whole, I would say this questionnaire format is perhaps quite flawed in its ability to measure legal research and writing abilities in that it deprives applicants of the actual tools they would use to do so. It certainly still feels unfair to me with the benefit of hindsight. So that's why I gave the negative rating. A better format would be to give the applicants the law you want them to analyze and see how they do on the hypothetical. Maybe even include a few unnecessary statutes as a red herring. But that way candidates with Westlaw access would not have an advantage. I would also recommend using a format that does not log the applicants out during their answer time. It should also clearly show their remaining time.
