Referred to the firm by an employee that was currently working there. Interviewed with the managing partner and two partners. Billable expectations were laid out in the offer letter and throughout the course of the initial interview. Meeting billables and time management were the only topics of interest during the interview. Received the offer on the spot.
The interview process for the medical malpractice team in LA was so disheartening. I had just recently passed the bar and therefore did not have any attorney experience, but the recruiter claimed, even after my interview, that she had told the team this. When I joined the zoom call, it was around 5 interviewers logged on. The main interviewer was a female partner, and she became immediately cold after I told her I did not have attorney experience but was willing to learn and use all the skills I have gained clerking at other firms. No one hid that I was a first-year, but for some reason it made her mad and the rest of the interview was really uncomfortable that I nearly cried. I understand mistakes happen, but when your posting is seeking a first-year attorney, don't let it out on the interviewee when your firm is the one that mismanaged the recruitment. I'm glad I saw the firm's true colors early on, though, and I'm grateful to have avoided such a negative team.
