I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Lidl (Southend-on-Sea, England) in Oct 2016
Interview
Applied online and then got an email asking me to call to arrange a telephone interview. The telephone interview lasted around 15 minutes and involved the usual competency based questions using STAR.
I was asked why I wanted to work and Lidl and what I knew about Lidl, so do a bit of online homework and you should be fine. I got an email the next day to invite me to the store for a face to face interview with the Area Manager (AM) and a short work trial.
I spent around 10 minutes with the AM and we talked about my previous work and a general chat, it was very easy going and I didn't have to duplicate what I had done in the telephone interview.
I then joined the Store Manager and did around 30 minutes on the shop floor which involved counting some boxes of products and noting it all down, then a check of the fresh produce for spoilage and finally a quick till test to make sure your comfortable with the till scanning and procedures. I was then free to go home.
The following morning I got a call from the Store Manager to say I was successful and I would receive a welcome pack in the post which arrived 4 days later. i start next week and I am attending my welcome event on my first day. Really looking forward to it ! Hope this information will help you if your applying to Lidl.

Question 1
Why do I want to work in lidl out of all the other retailers?
I applied in-person. I interviewed at Lidl (London, England) in Jul 2026
Interview
Scripted questions that were very simple if you have had any sort of retail/ service experience so nothing too outlandish. Would suggest to come prepared with some basic knowledge of retail before hand is you are unfamiliar.
