The recruiter reached out 3 or 4 weeks after I submitted an application. During our initial conversation, she asked what my salary history was. I told her that it didn't matter and that my target range was negotiable. She was very adamant that she would not move me forward unless she had my full previous compensation information. I was applying for a role in a smaller market than where I live and the pay would not be able to touch what I was paid before. Not a fair comparison.
After the phone interview with the HR representative, I was put on a phone interview with one of the portfolio managers about a week later. The interview was fine, talked about background and skills, experience in fixed-income and trading. The PM seemed very interested and how he could use my skills. It seems like things were going well.
I reached out a month later to the recruiter to see if there was anything I could provide that could help with the decision. She said there was still no decision from th PM on next steps and she would be in touch. It took them another 6 weeks to send an email stating that they found a more qualified candidate. After keeping in touch with friends at the firm, the roll was filled with a junior person with little experience and a low price tag.
